Beer City Records

We first heard about ‘Nato’ from a scene report that ‘Luk Haas’ did in MRR. ‘Luk’ had some sort of job were he would go all over the world and help countries get things going. What exactly it was were not sure. While he visited them he would try to find out as much as he could about local bands that were punk or different in any sort of way.Then he would write a big scene report for MRR. Usually involving several areas since in alot of these places there wasnt really enough info for a seperate report.

When we saw the report on Armenia we were pretty surprised that there was a report on Armenian , but also that there was actually a contact name and address for a man there by the name of ‘Aram Sahakian’. We went ahead and wrote to him and he actually emailed us back. Which was a surprise cause this is right before email was becoming popular in the US never mind a former Soviet country.

So we started corrisponding with ‘Aram’ and he sent us a reel to reel tape of his band and another Armenian band called ‘Roe Dae Woo’.It was some good material and we decided to do a split 7″ with the two bands.

The result was this 7″. Since it was only a two song 7″ we have included both songs here. This split was very interesting due to the fact that ‘Nato’ was almost ska based , but they definatly throw in a native ‘Armenian’ sound. Were ‘Roe Dae Woo’ on the other hand are straight forward very raw punk.

Regardless this made for a very interesting release and would further expanded the international scope of Beer City.
